Project Data
The Finish Line Apartments blend heritage and modern luxury, creating a narrative of Hobart’s past, present, and future. Situated on Castray Esplanade, the apartments look out across the Sydney to Hobart yacht race finish line. This complex, historic heritage 1920’s building has been redeveloped as a multi-use facility. The names of the apartments honour the history of the famed yacht race. The Level 1 apartments are Rani, the first race winner, and Comanche, the fastest yacht and record holder. The northern Level 3 apartment is Sydney, while its southern counterpart is Hobart.
This project delivers residential units on Level 1, offices on Level 2, short-term accommodation on Level 3 and ground floor car parking – each parking space fitted with high-speed electric car chargers, and lift access to all floors.
Luxury and opulence is the theme for the Level 3 accommodation, with all internal features bespoke. This tailored approach extends to every aspect of the design, from skylights to bedside tables. The cantilevered pool, suspended eight metres up and featuring a glass end and submerged glass window, is a one-of-a-kind architectural marvel in Australia.
Overseas quality features in the masonry, include bricks that are custom for this project fabricated using Spanish clay and glazed in Italy, and wet areas feature marble and granite wall linings sourced from Italy and Zanzibar. These feature bricks uniquely contribute to the building’s aesthetics and historical narrative. The bricks are designed to resemble the ripples of ocean waves, enhance the nautical theme of the project and respect the building’s waterfront warehouse location and the wider significance of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
This pioneering project is unmatched and unique in Hobart, Tasmania and Australia. The Finish Line presents a new pinnacle standard for accommodation in Hobart and renew the life of an otherwise derelict building.
