The first step was clearing dense bushland to allow the 55,000m3 of cut to fill which re-shaped the entire site, creating the two new sports grounds ready for the specialised sports ground contractor to form the new ovals.

The centre section of the sports complex is a state-of-the-art sporting facility, which includes 370m2 of change rooms that can be divided into four separate rooms if required. There is also a 150-seat function room, commercial kitchen and canteen, bar and coaching rooms that overlook the main oval.

Other external features include a large natural playground, basketball court, public toilet block and multiple car parks.

The specifications for the two football grounds allowed only a 10mm tolerance on the finished surface and included an extensive irrigation and drainage system.

Safely removing the dense trees while containing the site’s water run-off to prevent polluting the adjacent water way proved to be a challenge.

Careful consideration was also needed during the bulk earth works.
