Master Builders Victoria Winners for Maryborough Hospital Redevelopment

On Friday 26th June we were excited to take centre stage at the Master Builders Victoria (MBV) Regional Awards for the Western Region, winning both the Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings over $50M and Regional Commercial Builder of the Year (Western) Award for the Maryborough Hospital Redevelopment. Following our success, we were thrilled to celebrate another major achievement for the Maryborough Hospital Redevelopment with being awarded Excellence in Construction of a Health Facility Award for 2026.

These recognitions are a testament to the incredible effort, expertise and collaboration of our team and project partners who helped deliver this landmark healthcare facility for the Maryborough community.

Our people set an exceptional benchmark for quality, safety and delivery on what remains our largest stand-alone project in Victoria to date, also successfully navigating a highly complex operating environment.

The $80 million Maryborough Hospital Redevelopment has provided the Central Victoria region with a world-class healthcare facility that will support growing demand and modern models of care for many years to come.

Throughout our time on the project, we heard firsthand accounts from patients who faced journeys of more than an hour to Bendigo or Ballarat to access treatment, reinforcing just how vital this investment is in improving healthcare access for the local Maryborough community.

The redevelopment delivered a new state-of-the-art three-story hospital (plus plant level), including two operating theatres, birthing suites, a pediatric ward, inpatient units, CSSD, urgent care facilities, pathology, medical imaging, dialysis and oncology services, an ambulance bay and expanded consulting and public spaces.

Stage 2 included additional carparking, minor refurbishment works to the existing hospital and a new Main Entry concourse.

Beyond the hospital itself, the project included significant landscaping and infrastructure works, restoration of heritage buildings and the delivery of landmark entrance canopies featuring artwork developed in partnership with the Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners and a local Indigenous artist.

Our team was passionate about ensuring this project delivered more than just a great healthcare facility, we wanted to create lasting economic and employment benefits for the region, which is why we prioritised local and regional procurement from the outset, first looking to Maryborough and  the Goldfields Shire, before expanding opportunities across Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong.

This approach led us to partnering with an extensive network of regional subcontractors and suppliers while also creating new opportunities throughout the region. Pleasingly, several larger regional contractors engaged on the project employed local Maryborough residents, creating meaningful employment opportunities and lasting benefits for the community.

More than 11% of all project hours were delivered by people living within the Goldfields Shire. For a community of fewer than 13,500 people, that is an outstanding result and demonstrates what can be achieved through genuine early engagement and a deliberate focus on local participation.

The legacy of this project will be felt for generations through improved patient care, greater accessibility, enhanced safety and healthcare services that meet the needs of a growing regional community.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication, resilience, attention to detail, and pride demonstrated by everyone involved in the project. Thank you for the role you played in its success. This award is a reflection of the people behind it and a great example of exactly Who We Are.
