The new Spring Farm Village shopping centre is the result of a long-standing and highly collaborative relationship between Fairbrother and client, Tipalea Partners. Fairbrother was engaged to lead the construction of this new facility in Kingston, Tasmania, working closely from early contract involvement through to delivery, and adopting a Design & Construct approach that enabled open communication and flexibility. This collaborative mindset was critical in shaping a retail precinct centred on customer experience, ensuring the final outcome aligned with Tipalea’s vision for a high-quality, accessible and community-focused shopping destination.

Innovation was embedded throughout both the design and delivery phases, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the user experience. The project introduced unique features such as bespoke aluminium batten screening with integrated LED lighting, large-scale shade sails with printed artwork, and a thoughtfully designed layout prioritising ease of access through flat carparking and seamless entry points. The integration of practical amenities, including dedicated parking, parent facilities and community-focused features like bike and dog wash stations, demonstrates a forward-thinking approach that goes beyond standard retail design to create a truly customer-centric environment.

Despite a range of complex challenges, including significant ground remediation, evolving design requirements, additional tenancies introduced during construction, and coordination with multiple stakeholders and specialist contractors, the project team maintained momentum through proactive planning and strong stakeholder engagement, ultimately delivering the project on time, aligned with the original contract schedule. Innovative delivery strategies such as splitting the works into multiple building permits allowed the team to meet critical client timeframes, while close collaboration ensured that design changes and operational constraints were managed efficiently. The result is a high-quality retail precinct delivered in a dynamic environment, showcasing Fairbrother’s ability to adapt, problem-solve and consistently deliver value for our clients.
