About Redevelopment and refurbishment of an existing stone railway workshop into the Academy of Arts Faculty.

This project was part of the overall Inveresk Railyards Redevelopment and compliments the adjacent Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.

Construction work consisted of the complete redevelopment of two-thirds of the existing Stone Building and all of the adjacent Annexe Building into the Academy of Arts Facility for the University of Tasmania.

The existing Stone Building was built in 1923 as a railway workshop and was the largest building of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. It has been completely refurbished and mezzanine floors have been added to increase the available floor space. The existing 35 tonne SWL overhead cranes have been retained and incorporated into the new works as a visible link to the past use of this building.

The Annexe Building has been converted into Drama and Performing Arts studios and incorporates a 162-seat theatre.
