Risdonvale Prison
Tasmanian Prisons Redevelopment Program
Fairbrother Pty Ltd, in partnership with John Holland Pty Ltd, was awarded the $58.0M construction of the Tasmanian Prisons Redevelopment Program (Stage C) at Risdonvale in November 2003. The new development includes the construction of a 219 bed Men's Prison, a 45 bed Women's Prison and a 38 bed Secure Mental Health Unit (SMHU).
Fairbrother's Facilities Management and Maintenance Division has also managed to secure the maintenance of the new complex for a 15 year period.
Practical completion was achieved for the Secure Mental Health Unit on 29 November 2005, and was officially opened by the Tasmanian Minister for Health and Human Services, Mr David Llewellyn MHA on 17 February 2006.
SMHU and the new Men's and Women's Prisons are now complete. Formal handover of the main Men's prison occurred on Monday 28 August. The prison will commence operation shortly.
