| About |
The refurbishment of Court Room No 1 and construction of a link bridge. |
The sandstone-clad Law Courts building is an important part of the Davey Street streetscape in Hobart. This
project involved the refurbishment of Court Room No
1 on the second floor of the building, including the
construction of a link bridge spanning the existing
internal glass atrium from a stairwell to a new entry
area. An amenities room was demolished to enlarge the
existing court room, while a new kitchenette and an
external deck were added to provide improved facilities
and recreation areas for Court staff.
The project features high quality Tasmanian timber
joinery, including solid and veneer Huon Pine, Celery
Top Pine and Tasmanian Oak wall panelling specially
selected to match existing panels. All the joinery was
made off-site by the Fairbrother Joinery Division,
which worked in close consultation with the project
architects to ensure all specifications were met. Copper
cladding also features internally and externally while a
specially-constructed noticeboard is highlighted by a
combination of inlaid copper and a Huon Pine veneer.
The refurbishment also included the installation of
cabling for high-tech audio visual services and a C-Bus
control system for the enhanced operation of lighting
and blackout roller blinds. |
