A truly iconic project

Built under a joint venture arrangement with the John Holland Group, the Medical Science 1 building in Hobart is a truly iconic project.  With its uniquely organic exterior - inspired by a microscopic view of living cells - and flowing lines reflecting its mountain and riverside setting, this state of the art facility will play a major role in the advancement of medical research and education.

Complex three dimensional precast concrete panels mesh perfectly with glass and steel to create a visually striking building.

Minimising environmental impact

Inside, 6,600m2 of floor space on five levels provides ample room for world class laboratories, classrooms, a lecture theatre and offices.  In addition, a large plant room on level six provides mechanical and electrical services throughout the facility.

Minimising environmental impact was a key consideration both during the construction phase and for the lifecycle of the building.  The building uses a combination of passive and active environmentally sustainable design architectural initiatives.
