Hutchins School

Hobart, Tasmania

The latest technology

With sweeping views over the Derwent River, the construction of the Hutchins School’s new library learning centre included the demolition of the existing library and adjacent class rooms.

The construction of the library area included the latest technology with the IT set up, including Wi-Fi for the students use.  Break out areas are available for student use along with areas for the school’s trophy display and four new classrooms with offices on the lower level.
Sustainability features

The building also houses the school’s historical memorabilia as well as fire rated rooms for archiving and file storage.

The construction used sustainability features such as the extensive use of glass with opening windows for natural ventilation, use of fixed external louvers for shading of the library windows, and re-working of existing amenities/toilet areas.
