Our People

Fairbrother is the largest building contractor employer in Tasmania, with some 260 employees. Our workforce includes over 30 estimators/project managers, 25 foremen, in excess of 100 carpenters, joiners and other tradesmen, and 58 apprentices in 2008, making Fairbrother the largest current employer of apprentices in the Tasmanian construction industry.

At Fairbrother, we choose to directly employ our workforce, rather than rely on sub-contractors, enabling us to maintain a workforce of experienced, highly-skilled and dedicated employees.

Our employees are committed to the company ideals of honesty, quality and integrity.

Clients benefit because:

The collective experience attained by our employees is retained within the company
All Fairbrother employees participate in regular and ongoing training, and therefore remain at the forefront of new developments in tools and equipment, materials, quality assurance, health and safety, and management.
Using our own workforce gives us flexibility with regards to meeting timeframes or addressing special client needs.

Fairbrother is committed to being an employer of choice, and firmly believes both the Tasmanian construction industry and Tasmanian workforce offer many opportunities for the future.

Lifestyle, Not Just Work

The Fairbrother commitment to its employees goes beyond providing training and recognition, to include encouraging employees to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle. To assist with this, Fairbrother provides all employees with regular lifestyle assessments.

Fairbrother is also committed to providing a safe work environment for employees, and has a comprehensive Health and Safety program directly linked to the company’s Quality Assurance System.

Our Greatest Asset

At Fairbrother, we live by two mottos:

“Our people are our greatest asset”
“None of us is as smart as all of us”

The success of our business depends on the quality of the people we attract and retain. Our emphasis on teamwork and on providing a happy, challenging and rewarding workplace allows us to maintain a workforce of the highest standard.

Testament to our ability to attract and retain outstanding employees is our company Honour Board, which lists 73 employees as having been with the company for 10 years or more. Included in this 73 are 26 who have been with Fairbrother for at least 15 years, 8 who have been Fairbrother employees for 20 years, and 3 (Victoria Pendrey, David Ingram and John French) who have achieved an incredible 25+ years of service to the company.

Training

A key element in attracting and retaining our high quality workforce is the company-wide emphasis on training. Fairbrother has a deep commitment to training, not only to ensure employees are highly skilled, challenged and motivated in their positions, but also to ensure they remain at the forefront of new developments.

From apprentice level to management, employees are regularly able to participate in training activities and courses, held both in our own training facilities and externally.

Currently, 6 employees are on their way to completing a Bachelor of Construction Management. 5 more have recently completed the Diploma in Frontline Management.
