News Archive major new contract for fairbrother group's bendigo-based morey & hurford team Morey & Hurford, Fairbrother’s Bendigo-based construction arm, have secured the highly prestigious $20 million contract to build the first Bendigo Education Plan building at Eaglehawk Secondary College. The project, Morey & Hurford’s largest to date, will commence on 7 July. At a media launch on site, attended by Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, Morey & Hurford General Manager Terry Hurford expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the project; “It’s great to be involved in the first of these schools, we are really looking forward to it.” The project will provide not just a great opportunity for Morey & Hurford, but also provide new employment, training and development opportunities with Hurford confirming, “We will probably start employing new staff and we will certainly be committing to a few new apprentices. Also, we are keen to use as many local sub-contractors as possible, ensuring as much local involvement in the project as we can.” The College is one of four new schools to be built in Bendigo under the Victorian State Government’s $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan that is seeking to renovate, extend or rebuild schools across the state, indicating additional future opportunities for Morey & Hurford and the Fairbrother Group in the region. Previous significant local projects Morey & Hurford have been involved with have included the refurbishment and restoration of the Bendigo Town Hall, the $6 million Bendigo Radiotherapy Centre, and construction of the 60-bed nursing home in Eaglehawk.
