Young Coastal carpenter Jacob Mead has been hailed as the state’s best construction apprentice at Saturday night’s Master Builders Association of Tasmania Awards for Excellence.

The award led a golden night for Fairbrother Pty Ltd, with the company also winning six project awards and the coveted Commercial Builder of the Year award.

Jacob began his career with Fairbrother at the Devonport Homemaker site and over the four years of his apprenticeship he worked on a variety of projects including: the Port Sorell Retail Development, UTAS NRAS apartments in Burnie, Simplot, Nant Distillery and the Royal Hobart Hospital.

He is currently working as a Leading Hand on the Devonport Living City site.

General Manager Kurt Arnold said Jacob was an excellent representative for both Fairbrother and the construction industry as a whole.

“Jacob is an impressive young man who has earned the respect of his peers,” Mr Arnold said.

Fairbrother CEO Craig Edmunds said the award win was well deserved and that the future looks bright for the talented young tradesman.

“Jacob is a highly capable young tradesman and an asset to our company. His dedication and enthusiasm is impressive and stands him in good stead for a long, successful career in the construction industry,” Mr Edmunds said.
