Prestigious national award for Fairbrother

25-Nov-2016
Fairbrother Joinery named Specialist Contractor of the Year

Leading Tasmanian construction contractor Fairbrother Pty Ltd has been honoured at a national level, with a prestigious construction award at a gala event in Canberra on November 24, 2016.

At Master Builders Australia’s National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards at Parliament House, Fairbrother’s Joinery Division claimed the coveted National Specialist Contractor of the Year Award.

The award win came off the back of the division’s work on the refurbishments of Spirit of Tasmania I and II.

One of the most logistically challenging projects undertaken by Fairbrother Joinery, the refurbishments required work to be undertaken on one ship while it was in service across Bass Strait. The other was refurbished while in dry dock in Sydney.

Adding to the complexity of the project was the UK location of the client, Trimline, making effective communications more challenging and meaning early mornings and late nights for the project management team.

Fairbrother CEO Craig Edmunds said the award win was a great reward for the joinery team, which rose to the occasion of a challenging project.

“Our success in the refurbishments of the Spirit of Tasmania ships has demonstrated the fantastic skills of our joinery division to undertake such a diverse project,” Mr Edmunds said.

“It’s great to see their talents and skills recognised at a national level.”

Fairbrother Joinery Manager Dion Clarke said the award win was an honour and a reflection of not only Fairbrother’s focus on developing a strong and committed team, but the skills of the entire joinery division.

"To win such a prestigious award at a national level is a huge honour for our business and demonstrates the skilled workforce we have established,” Mr Clarke said.

“I'm incredibly proud of the joinery division’s hard work and commitment."

This is the second time Fairbrother Joinery has won National Specialist Contractor of the Year, after first winning the award in 2005.

Decant Facility at RHH

Media Release regarding the Decant Facility at the Royal Hobart Hospital

Thursday April 14, 2016

HOBART, TASMANIA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DECANT FACILITY AT THE ROYAL HOBART HOSPITAL

As the contractor responsible for the construction of the temporary modular building at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Fairbrother Ltd Pty will take action to quickly rectify additional non-compliance issues identified with modules provided by a specialist sub-contractor from Victoria.

These issues relate to

  • Damage to external cladding and roofing during transit
  • Water ingress and arising mould to ceilings prior to delivery
  • Confirmation of compliance requirements

Fairbrother CEO Craig Edmunds said: “While these issues relate to non-compliance by a sub-contractor engaged by our company, as the Managing Contractor in charge of this work package we take full responsibility for rectifying these matters and ensuring we deliver a building that is to the high standard that our company is known for.”

This is a regrettable situation which is outside the control of the Government and will be resolved at no additional cost to taxpayers.

Fairbrother is diligently working to implement a resolution which will ensure the project remains on track.
